The seats are supremely comfortable, heated and ventilated, and the touch surfaces and appointments are high-quality. This is a vehicle designed for commuting in comfort, or for taking the whole family. Once you slide into the driver’s seat, the real purpose of the GLE become apparent. The big three-pointed star on the nose is your primary visual cue that this is a Benz. If you don’t get a close look, it could be any SUV offered by any manufacturer. Beyond that, the GLE adheres to the basic SUV two-box look and is unremarkable. It’s dignified, understated, and looks like a luxury SUV. But, for the rest of us, we’ll make the most of a car with plenty of utility, sporty styling and confident performance - humbly rolling without the badge of fastest and biggest. In classic Mercedes style, the GLE is a handsome vehicle. If you’re a track fiend or simply trying to set yourself apart in the neighborhood, the GLE 63 S will suffice to establish your SUV dominance. It’s a more realistic option than the AMG GLE 63 S, and one that will serve you well in Kitzbuhel, Lake Tegernsee or New Jersey. The GLE 450 AMG Coupé lands dead center in the ever-popular sporty crossover segment. Utility, and a bit less compensatory horsepower, will. And while its 0-to-62 time of 5.7 seconds may seem cruelly slow compared to the GLE 63 S Coupé (4.2 seconds), that won’t come to light every day. I headed through mud, over logs and rocks. The gravel ended, but the muddy tracks continued into the forest. Here, the car’s other purpose (and much more viable one, on family vacations and the like) came to light. I took a right up an unpaved road, my GPS noting: “Road Not Mapped”. And, tip-toeing around blind turns, I found a small moment of dynamic use for this Sport Utility Vehicle. It’s a fine reminder that this isn’t track borne and bred. Taking the GLE 450 AMG on the winding roads that outline Lake Tegernsee, the 450 takes turns with enough confidence to garner the AMG badge, but still sits too tall to encourage repeated hard cornering. Thus, Mercedes-AMG’s more “mundane” option, the GLE 450 AMG Coupé, turns out to be the most realistic option in life. Unless life satisfaction comes from ripping to soccer practice faster than all the other dads (or racing the ones in the Porsche Cayenne S, Range Rover Sport SVR or the BMW X6 M), most of this technology and horsepower will go to waste. Although it’s fun to set off car alarms in town and rip down the Autobahn, half of that horsepower will be lost on the inevitable demographic of suburban homeowners. Outside of those who take weekend driving seriously, the AMG GLE 63 S (Coupé or standard) doesn’t make a ton sense. Transmission: Seven-speed AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic But, while glorious in Kitzbuhel, the question is, who exactly is doing this in the real world? And, the GLE 63 S Coupé’s 0-to-62 time of 4.2 seconds is plenty fast enough to justify weekend time on the back straight. The SUV doesn’t wallow or lean, it stays relatively flat and planted. But, the car tells me to stay on the gas and power through the sweeping turns, the twin-turbo V8 talking me out of any doubts. This is a tall and large vehicle, with SUV ancestry. I took the AMG 63 S up in the German Alps on the way to Kitzbuhel, Austria, and took tarmac turns much faster than common sense would dictate. And, to leverage that power best, AMG gives the high horsepower lowered, track-tuned suspension. Mercedes makes a fantastic V8, and even after slapping two turbos on the engine, it still keeps an entirely raucous soundtrack (at any speed). With the 585 horsepower 560 lb-ft 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, you find yourself constantly stabbing at the throttle on the straights out of pure amusement, but pushing it through the turns mainly out of curiosity. There’s variants throughout, but for our driving purposes, we went (naturally) for the fastest and biggest.Īn SUV with the AMG treatment is an interesting beast. Same engine as the little brother, but more heft. The bigger brother to the GLE 63 S Coupé is the behemoth Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupé is the fastest with a V8 biturbo and 585 horsepower. The GLE 450 Coupé, with a V6 biturbo engine good for 367 horsepower, is the entry point to the line. “G” indicates that it’s part of the SUV family, under the grandaddy G-Wagon, with the rest of the nomenclature positioning it somewhere on the Mercedes-AMG family branch. The the GLE line is the replacement for the old ML-Class SUV, under Mercedes’ increasingly (convoluted) diverse naming scheme. Saw the film last night, couldn't agree more. I will definitely be watching this again and hopefully I see things differently now that my first critical viewing is out the way. It was definitely a good film, but the 3 films that came before it were absolutely incredible that any minor faults with 4 stood out to me a lot. I’ve read in multiple reviews that people cried so maybe it’s just me?ĭoes anyone have similar thoughts? Or am I alone in having these issues with the film?Įxpectations were so high with this film so I think that’s where my trouble lies. It just didn’t have that emotional impact on me like it should have. Here we had a farewell that felt more like saying goodbye to someone who’s going on a long holiday, rather than saying goodbye forever. When the toys said goodbye to Andy in Toy Story 3, we were given a nice moment which tugged at the heart strings and that final look back at the toys made grown men and women cry. These toys have been pals for 20 years, and it was almost too easy for them to say goodbye and part ways. We didn’t get time to process or feel the gravity of what was actually happening. when we got to the moment of Woody saying goodbye to the gang, it felt rushed. Bo Peep was good, but felt like a completely different character from who she was in the first film which I found a little distracting, but a lot can happen to a toy over the course of 20ish years so you can make allowances for that.Īnd then there was the ending. She had great moments but didn’t quite get there. But I felt the villain of the film, Gabby Gabby, was a shadow of what Lotso was in the 3rd film. The new characters for the most part were great, in particularly Ducky and Bunny, and Duke Caboom got a few laughs. It wasn’t so much a Toy Story movie, as it was a Woody Story movie. Buzz has a decent sized role but still felt he was lacking. I was left wanting more of Jessie, Rex, Slinky, the potato heads, and Ham, which for the most part felt like cameos. The film pushes all our favourite characters besides Woody aside. With a rotten tomatoes score of 98% (as of the 19th of June) I feel like I may be in the minority when I say I was left a little disappointed in the film. Many people, including me questioned ‘why make a 4th film when the ending of 3 was perfect?’ The three films are among my most cherished movies. I’m now 30 and still in love with the films. I saw the first film when it came out when I was 6. Now, we can choose from the ultra-sporty RS trim or the contemporary, muscular ACTIV trim, all of which have distinctive grilles, wheels, and interior elements. It has clean, streamlined lines and a lower, longer, and bolder design. The Trax is a beautiful small SUV with two different characters. Hence, there is a small amount of psychological truth to this independence of selection: as selections walk by, wearing underwear and cleaning our mouth do not matter. Fortunately, however, the majority of our behaviors are very spontaneous, therefore we cannot notice the options. Not just this, yet there are options all the time to our decisions. “Having coffee or killing myself” said Albert Camus, an existentialist philosophy expert, stating the aspect that everywhere and any minute in our lives there’s a choice to be taken. Thus, if we are opting for utility service or making a decision about a professional route, the current community introduces to us plenty of options.Ĭhapter 2 – If we have more choices, it becomes more difficult to make the right decision. It looks as regardless of the concept of the daily life we go back to, the number of decisions lays there for us has grown during the recent decades. Furthermore, we’re nowadays introduced with a huge compulsory of several types of health plans, pension programs, and curative services. This s excess of choice is utilized in other places too – in utility sponsors, for instance, whose unconditional and competitive approaches in telecommunication and energy industries have brought a confusing order of selections. Actually, in the majority of advanced colleges, students have the option to seek nearly an unspecified study area they prefer. Also, the College of Swarthmore, a modest one with just 1350 pupils, has around 120 various subjects to satisfy the standard education necessity, from those pupils should register only nine. Nowadays, for example, schools are like mental shopping centers, embracing a concept that encourages independence of selection in the first degree. We now encounter a need for making decisions that is unique in the history of mankind. However, when the community has developed, the order of selections in daily life has extremely grown. Thus, when the case became choosing pedagogy, schools regularly asked all pupils to finish a couple of years’ courses of general learning, with just seldom, yet the options of courses were limited. Ideas are shared about how to clarify selections and to be happy with the options we consider.Ĭhapter 1 – The number of selections human beings encounter daily has raised greatly in contemporary years.īefore some decades, choice in a few places of the everyday routine was, in fact, fairly restrained.įor instance, only thirty years ago, all services were controlled by monopolies, thus, consumers didn’t have to go through challenging choices regarding who was responsible for supporting their mobile or electric service. Gratefully, The Choice Paradox reveals to us the way we can follow to avert the bad impacts of selection exerted by striving for any range of proper limitations. Throughout this summary, you’ll learn the way and the reason such options lessen the joy of our choices. When we decide at last, just for the different alternatives to be there, in fact, begins to torture people. The Choice Paradox switches this common sense upside down and suggests that to encounter affluence of selection may be very commanding that it makes psychological discomfort, concerting it into a tough choice for us. It’s all about the decision that provides us with satisfaction and allows us to express ourselves. In nowaday’s rich community, we encounter daily an infinite set of decisions, starting from the fashion we choose to the food we eat at lunch break. But dino-shaped they are/claim to be, so let's run with it. These certainly don't look like any dinosaurs I have ever seen, but then again, who really can say what dinosaurs looked like? All of our drawings, movies, and museum replicas are only best guesses. Until now, as far as I know, meatless eaters were not graced with the fun of dinosaur shaped nuggets, only vaguely organically shaped nuggets. One thing that tastes like chicken is the Trader Joe's chick'n tenders, and the second are these plant-based dino nuggets from ALDI. Only in the past year have things started to actually start to taste like chicken, and feel like chicken, which is equally important as the taste. In a bowl, add the cornstarch and water mix well and pour into the pan too.Over the years, a LOT of things have claimed to "taste like chicken!" that have fallen very short. Scotts, along with Miracle-Gro and a host of other home and garden products, are owned by Monsanto. If we zoom out a little bit, there’s a bigger issue at play. Even in the best case scenario the benefit is almost nonexistent. Why would a product be good enough for our lawns, but not good enough for a landfill?Īgain, my major gripe isn’t with the toxicity of iron sulfate it’s that this is an entirely unnecessary product with considerable risks to humans and the environment. Scotts also says: “If the bag is partly filled, call your local solid waste agency for disposal instructions.” Brush particles from cement, stone, clothing, or shoes to prevent staining. Apply this product only to your lawn, and sweep any product that lands on the driveway, sidewalk, or street back onto your lawn. Do not apply near water, storm drains, or drainage ditches. However, iron sulfate is hazardous if swallowed and can cause skin and eye irritation.Įcologically, iron sulfate doesn’t pose a huge threat unless it enters the water stream, where it’s a considerable threat to fish (as if salmon need another thing to worry about). When handled properly, it really isn’t the most damaging substance on Earth. The active ingredient is ferrous sulfate monohydrate also known as iron sulfate. Now what? Photo by Sam Wigness.īig name moss killers like Scotts MossEx and Lilly Miller’s MossOut cost about $15 for 20 lb bag. OK, the moss killer turned some of the moss black. Sure, a chemical moss killer will make it easier to remove, but someone still needs to climb up there to physically remove the moss and the chemical runoff isn’t something to ignore. Go figure.įor more natural lawn care tips, check out the conversation with Ladd Smith linked above.Īs far as I’m concerned, the same goes for roofs. Moss killers can actually create conditions that are better for moss and worse for grass. In the Pacific Northwest, a region with acidic soil that favors moss, the trick to growing grass is reducing soil acidity with a yearly application of lime to maintain a pH balance between 6 and 7. “Iron also acidifies the soil, so if the injured moss isn’t removed it will return with a vengeance.” “These products turn the moss black and injure it by dehydrating it, but if it’s not removed it will come back,” Smith said. And would anyone in their right mind put those booger-crusted LEGOS back in with the others? Heck no! So why would anyone put chemically-scorched moss into personal or industrial compost?īased on a conversation I had with Ladd Smith, co-owner of In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes with 40+ years of organic gardening experience, moss only becomes a problem when it’s treated chemically. It doesn’t make the task any easier, it just adds an unnecessary and toxic element. It’s called moss killer, not moss remover for a reason.Īpplying moss killer is like taking the time to sneeze on your kids’ LEGOS before picking them up off the floor. And even after scorching it with chemicals, moss still needs to be physically removed. Whether it’s dead or alive, it peels up easily and is absolutely no match for a $35 power rake. Moss doesn’t run very fast or put up much of a fight. It goes like this: Stop buying moss killer However, I would like to share a tip to save all ye valiant moss-battlers some time and money, and reduce chemical runoff. I’m not going to weigh in on whether people should remove lawn moss or let it be. In the Pacific Northwest, the annual moss battle - a never-ending battle with no discernible winner - is underway and chemical moss killer is the weapon of choice.
