If you need extra help I found Dirty USMLE helpful for both biostats and ethics review. For biostats, watch the Randy Neill videos on Youtube, go through the Uworld biostats supplement, and do all the questions, and you will be fine.As others have mentioned I think the best approach to this would be to review the pharmacology and immunology sections of First Aid as I felt most of the step 1 questions came from there. I felt this way and I scored well above average!! Besides the biostats and drug MoA questions, there were way too many bogus step 1 and "trivia fact" type questions that were gimmes if you happened to remember from Step 1, but if you struggled with Step 1 like I did, it felt like you were yet again paying for not doing enough Anki cards during the first 2 years of medical school. As others have said, you'll probably walk out of this day feeling defeated and that you failed step 3.If you're not going into internal medicine, I feel like taking Step 3 before residency is the best idea, but that is not my situation. At this point in the year I feel like my clinical knowledge was at a great point to answer the clinical reasoning questions on day 2 of the exam, and I still remembered enough from medical school to answer the pediatrics and step 1 questions on day 1 of the exam. I also think that if you are going into internal medicine, you absolutely 100% should take Step 3 at the end of intern year if possible. In hindsight, I kind of liked being able to take it easy for a couple days after day 1 before I started studying for day 2. I ended up taking day 1 about a week after day 1. CCS cases (60% complete): idk there was a huge range some cases 40% other cases 100%īig thanks to this community for all the help and resources along the way to taking this big test! Overall, my biggest takeaway is that this exam does not need to be 2 days long, and that it is cruel to make us plan for an extra day during residency just to take a test/if you try to take it before residency to schedule 2 separate days to travel to a Prometric site.Current PGY-1 IM resident who took Step 3 earlier this month (3/2023).
